Natrona County GOP Primary Advances Laird, Pacheco, Keating to General Election

Casper, WY — Voters in Natrona County selected the Republican nominees for three open seats on the Board of Commissioners during the August 18 primary. Incumbent Dallas Laird, current Casper Mayor Ray Pacheco and businessman Matt Keating each earned enough votes to advance to the November general election.

Laird received 7,944 votes, Pacheco earned 7,536 votes, and Keating garnered 4,608 votes. Their totals placed them ahead of a field of seven challengers, including Rozmaring Czaban, Chad McNutt, Charles E. Moore, Cathi Carr, Cameron Savage, Janel Moore and Greg Flesvig.

Democratic candidates move forward automatically

Both Democratic candidates, Candace Machado and Lisa Jamieson, automatically advance to the general election because the party fielded only two candidates for the three seats.

The three commissioner seats up for election are currently held by Laird, Jim Milne and Peter Nicolaysen. Milne and Nicolaysen have announced they will not seek re‑election, opening the board to new representation.

Wyoming law requires the filing period for independent candidates to close on August 24, giving unaffiliated voters a brief window to submit petitions for a ballot line.

Official results remain unofficial until certified by the Natrona County and Wyoming state canvassing boards. Oil City News provides a full list of race results for reference.

What’s next for the candidates?

The three Republican nominees will join Machado and Jamieson on the November ballot, where voters will decide who will fill the open commissioner seats. The primary outcome reflects a mix of experienced incumbents and newcomers, setting the stage for a competitive general election.

County commissioners in Wyoming oversee a range of responsibilities, including budget approval, infrastructure projects, and land‑use decisions that directly affect residents of Casper and the surrounding rural areas. The upcoming election will shape the board’s direction on these issues for the next four years.

Voters can find polling locations and additional election information on the Natrona County website. As the campaign season progresses, candidates are expected to increase outreach efforts, attend community events, and outline their priorities for the county’s future.
