Natrona County Commissioners Set Election Worker Pay, Approve Zone Change

The Natrona County Board of Commissioners in Casper, Wyoming, has approved new compensation rates for election workers. This decision was made during the board’s Tuesday meeting as part of the consent agenda, which allows for a single vote to address multiple items. The new pay structure, recommended by County Clerk Tracy Good, aligns with state law requirements for adjustments during the June meeting. Election managers and coordinators will now earn $200 per election, computer judges $165, and precinct judges $150. Hourly roles such as greeters and hallway judges will receive $15 per hour, with an additional $20 for mandatory training and standard mileage reimbursement.

Zone Change on Poison Spider Road

In addition to setting election worker pay, the commissioners approved a 385-acre zone change on Poison Spider Road. Property owners David Creager and Michael Reed requested the change from Ranch, Agriculture, and Mining to Urban Agriculture. Neighbors Brenda and Clayton Williams expressed concerns about potential impacts on the Poison Spider Water District and the rural landscape, fearing increased nuisances such as animal conflicts and noise pollution.

Despite these concerns, the commissioners supported the request, citing property rights. Commissioner Dallas Laird emphasized the importance of allowing landowners to manage their property as long as it doesn’t burden others. Commissioner Dave North echoed this sentiment, acknowledging Creager’s desire to remain on his property without the obligation to continue farming indefinitely.

Additionally, the board appointed Mark Harshman to fill an unexpired term on the Fire Fighters of Natrona County board and granted a right-of-way license to Mountain West Technologies for an underground fiber-optic line project along Six Mile Road.
