National Toy Hall of Fame Announces 2026 Finalists Including Bingo, Tickle Me Elmo and Care Bears

The National Toy Hall of Fame unveiled its 12 finalists for the Class of 2026 on Wednesday, inviting the public to help choose the next inductees. Voting runs from September 16 through September 23, allowing fans nationwide to weigh in alongside a panel of museum judges.

Who Made the Shortlist

The diverse lineup reflects toys that have shaped generations of play. Highlights include the iconic Tickle Me Elmo doll, the classic game of chance Bingo, and the beloved Care Bears plush line. Other nominees are the strategic dice game Yahtzee, the ancient tile game Mahjong, and the wildly popular Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Additional contenders feature the handheld electronic game Bop It!, the fashion‑forward Monster High dolls, the miniature world of Polly Pocket, and the timeless board games Mouse Trap and Sorry!.

What It Means to Be an Icon

According to Michelle Parnett‑Dwyer, senior curator at the museum, the finalists “give everyone plenty to talk about — from classic games to plush icons and other toys that have shaped generations of play.” She added that the debate itself is part of the fun, as each toy carries its own memories and cultural significance.

To earn a place in the Hall, a toy must be considered an icon, have engaged multiple generations, fostered creativity, or profoundly changed play or toy design. The Hall currently honors 90 toys, including Cabbage Patch Kids, Dungeons & Dragons, Hot Wheels, Frisbee, G.I. Joe and Mr. Potato Head.

Public Participation

Anyone can cast a vote during the open period. The final three winners will be announced in November, joining the existing roster of Hall of Fame inductees. Past nominees such as Tickle Me Elmo, the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Mahjong have lingered on the Hall’s “door” for years, underscoring the lasting impact of these playthings.

For those eager to support their favorite toys, the Hall’s website provides voting instructions and background on each nominee. Whether you grew up with a slide in the neighborhood park or a deck of Pokémon cards, this is an opportunity to celebrate the toys that have defined childhoods across the country.
