The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, a popular spot for visitors, has become a focus of police attention. Following President Donald Trump’s claims that vandals damaged the pool’s liner, National Guard members and Park Police have been patrolling the deck around the pool.
Increased Security Measures
The increased security measures come after a June 9 incident in which a sharp knife or razor cut the pool’s new liner. One man was arrested for touching the already-peeling paint, and crews have been seen adding fencing near the area.
The Reflecting Pool has long been a site for protests, vigils, celebrations, and stunning sunrise photos. However, entering the pool has always been illegal, and visitors can now expect a stronger police presence.
