NASCAR’s Alex Bowman Overcomes Vertigo to Return to Racing

NASCAR driver Alex Bowman has been navigating a challenging season after dealing with a vertigo condition that sidelined him from several races. The 33-year-old driver, who races for Hendrick Motorsports, has been working diligently to manage his health and return to the track.

Bowman first experienced vertigo during a race at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, which forced him to step out of his No. 48 Chevrolet. The condition, characterized by dizziness and nausea, led him to miss races in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Bowman also opted out of driving for JR Motorsports at Darlington and Nashville, focusing instead on understanding the root cause of his vertigo.

“I would say I’m as close to 100% as I’m going to get,” Bowman stated before the Cracker Barrel 400 Cup Series race in Lebanon, Tennessee. His determination to return to racing was evident as he prepared for the upcoming NASCAR events, including the race in Michigan.

Health Challenges and Recovery

Bowman’s journey back to racing was not without hurdles. He had previously missed races due to a concussion in 2022 and a broken back in 2023. The vertigo episode added another layer of complexity to his career, as it required a “tiny little operation” to address balance issues related to his spine.

Despite these challenges, Bowman has been committed to his recovery, undergoing physical therapy to prevent the vertigo from recurring. His perseverance paid off, and he now feels ready to compete again. “I’m glad to be on the right side of it,” Bowman said, expressing relief at overcoming the condition.

Bowman’s return to racing is a testament to his resilience and dedication. With 12 races left in the season, he aims to climb the standings and secure a spot in the playoffs. His focus remains on performing well at tracks where he has struggled in the past, and he has already achieved two top-five finishes this year.

As Bowman continues to race, his story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of perseverance and determination in the face of adversity.
