Mendy Sharp Steps In as Interim Superintendent at Red Lick ISD

Mendy Sharp, who has been serving as the academic chief and operations officer for Red Lick Independent School District (RLISD), has been appointed as the interim superintendent. This decision was made during a recent board meeting, marking a significant leadership transition for the district.

Leadership Transition

Sharp’s appointment follows the resignation of longtime superintendent Brandon Dennard, who has taken a similar role at Pittsburg Independent School District. Dennard expressed gratitude towards the Red Lick community, highlighting their support during his family’s personal challenges, including his wife’s battle with cancer.

Sharp brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously worked as the director of Business and Community Education at Texarkana College. Her leadership has been praised by the district, with a social media post referring to her as a “fantastic leader.”

Future Plans

As Sharp steps into her new role, the RLISD board plans to continue its search for a permanent superintendent after the start of the 2026-27 school year. This period will allow the board to thoroughly evaluate candidates who can uphold the district’s commitment to educational excellence and community values.

The Red Lick community, known for its strong family values and commitment to education, will be closely watching this transition. The appointment of an interim superintendent from within the district highlights a preference for continuity and familiarity with the community’s needs.
