Nampa Hosts Free Water Safety Event at Lakeview Water Park

As summer temperatures rise in southern Idaho, the City of Nampa is taking proactive steps to ensure community safety around water activities. With Idaho’s drowning rates above the national average, Nampa Parks and Recreation is hosting a Safe Swim event at Lakeview Water Park on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. This free event aims to educate families on water safety, emphasizing the importance of proper safety education when enjoying water recreation.

Community Engagement for Safety

Jessica Vanderpool, aquatic supervisor at Harward Recreation Center, expressed enthusiasm about the event, highlighting the collaboration with local organizations to provide valuable safety education. “We are excited to partner with some amazing organizations to bring you an event focused on teaching kids and parents how to be safe in, on, and around the water,” Vanderpool said.

The event is part of Water Safety Awareness Month and will feature various safety stations managed by local organizations and first responders. Participants can learn essential skills such as calling 911 and performing hands-only CPR with Canyon County Paramedics, and understanding canal safety with the Nampa Fire Department. Children will receive a game board to be stamped at each station, making the learning experience interactive and engaging.

Summer Fun and Safety

Lakeview Water Park, which opens for the summer on May 29, is one of several locations in Nampa where families can cool off. Midway Park and Orah Brandt Park are also available as options for residents to enjoy water activities throughout the summer, open now through Labor Day.

For more information about the Safe Swim event or other recreational opportunities, residents can visit the Nampa Parks and Recreation website or call 208-468-5858.
