Murder Defendant Denied Release

Lane County Circuit Judge Clara Rigmaiden denied bail for Everett Scott Fuller, 57, who will remain in Lane County Jail while awaiting a new trial in connection with the December 2024 shooting death of Christopher Lee Clark Jr.

Background

Fuller testified in his previous trial that he acted in self-defense when shooting Clark, who was romantically involved with Fuller’s wife. The previous trial ended with a deadlocked jury in May and June.

Lane County Deputy District Attorney Nicholas Geil read parts of emails he said were from Fuller to his wife, including one that stated, ‘I gave my word as a man to Bubba that if he ever tried to get you to touch him again, I would shoot him.’ Defense attorney John Kolego argued that the email was from 2022 and noted the time gap between when it was written and the day Clark was shot.

The shooting took place on the Prindel Creek Farm property in the Coast Range, about 25 miles east of Yachats. Eight residents or former residents of the area known as Five Rivers Valley wrote letters to the court opposing Fuller’s release, and a similar number showed up for the hearing held in Eugene.

Judge Rigmaiden said the letters were not evidence and ruled that ‘based on evidence that would be admissible at trial,’ the ‘presumption is strong that the defendant is guilty’ and denied bail to Fuller.
