Montgomery Restaurant Closed Due to Health Concerns

A well-known downtown Montgomery restaurant has been forced to close due to health concerns. The Alabama Department of Public Health says a complaint was received regarding Wintzell’s Oyster House, which is on Commerce Street at the Renaissance Hotel and Montgomery Convention Center complex.

ADPH says the Montgomery County Health Department investigated the complaint on Monday, June 15, and found a rodent infestation and a lack of refrigeration. Wintzell’s will now contact the health department once it has worked with a pest control company to develop and implement a formal plan addressing the treatment and prevention of rodent activity.

The restaurant will also have to make repairs to its refrigeration equipment prior to reopening. Wintzell’s is a seafood chain based in Mobile that has six locations in the state. It started in 1938 and has a loyal following among seafood lovers.
