Jake McCarthy went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and four runs to help the visiting Colorado Rockies break a four-game losing streak Saturday with an 8-5 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals.
McCarthy’s Achievement
McCarthy is only the second player in the live-ball era to fill a box score with at least four runs, four hits, three RBIs, two homers and two stolen bases in one game. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani achieved the feat against the Miami Marlins on Sept. 19, 2024.
Both of McCarthy’s home runs came on the first pitch of his at-bats, including a leadoff blast on the game’s first pitch against left-hander Matthew Liberatore. Building on a two-run lead in the sixth, McCarthy added a two-run shot in the sixth against right-hander Luis Gastelum.
