Missouri and Kansas held primaries on Aug. 4, with voters deciding on state constitutional amendments and local races. In Missouri, voters considered four state constitutional amendments, including one that would reapprove a 0.1% state sales tax to fund soil and water conservation projects and state parks and historic sites.

Other amendments on the ballot included one that would make the position of county assessor in all charter counties an elected position, one that would make it harder to pass citizen-led initiative petitions, and one that would direct state lawmakers to eliminate the state income tax. Kansas voters decided whether to keep the current process of nominating justices or replace it with direct elections.
Local races and bond issues were also on the ballot in Kansas City and Jackson County. The Beacon will provide updates on the results of these races and ballot measures as they become available.
