Mississippi Senate Race

Colom, a district attorney, is drawing attention for his potentially competitive campaign. He would be Mississippi’s first Black senator since Reconstruction and the state’s first new Democratic senator since the 1940s. To win, Colom needs to increase Black turnout and get a larger share of the white vote than Democrats typically do.

Hyde-Smith, who was first appointed and then elected in 2018, is using a familiar playbook of portraying her Democratic opponent as too liberal for Mississippi. However, Colom insists he can win by highlighting Hyde-Smith’s loyalty to Trump and policies that have hurt Mississippi farmers, consumers, and residents.

Other notable Senate races include Iowa, where Democrat Josh Turek is challenging Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson, and Kansas, where Democrat Adam Hamilton is running against Republican Sen.
