Miss Massachusetts returns to Westborough police beat after national pageant

Westborough, MA – The town’s own Miss Massachusetts, Ashlyn Mercier, has swapped the Miss America stage for a police cruiser. Following ten days of competition in West Palm Beach, the newly‑crowned state titleholder returned to Westborough on Monday and resumed her regular patrol duties.

Balancing two demanding callings

Mercier is the first police officer ever to hold the Miss Massachusetts crown and only the second officer to compete at the Miss America competition. In an interview with local media, she explained why the two roles matter to her: “It’s a big responsibility to the young women and girls that are watching me. I want to be a role model for them and show them that they can do anything they dream of, whether being a police officer or being Miss Massachusetts.”

Community outreach continues

Beyond her beat, Mercier plans to use the platform that comes with the Miss title to benefit the town. She will continue classroom visits, emcee community events, and champion programs that support children facing serious illnesses. Her dual presence in law enforcement and public life aligns with Westborough’s emphasis on strong families, faith‑based values, and individual liberty.

Police department welcomes her back

Westborough Police Chief Michael O’Connor praised Mercier’s dedication, noting that her return “reinforces the department’s commitment to serving the community with integrity and compassion.” The department highlighted that her visibility as both officer and titleholder can help bridge gaps between law enforcement and residents, especially young people who may view police work through a more personal lens.

What the Miss America experience brings

Competing on a national stage gave Mercier a broader perspective on public service. She met fellow contestants from across the country, many of whom are also involved in community‑service careers. Mercier said the experience sharpened her communication skills and deepened her resolve to be an advocate for safety, health, and family values back home.

Looking ahead

As Miss Massachusetts, Mercier will travel throughout the state for official duties, but she emphasized that Westborough will remain her home base. “I’m proud to represent the Bay State, but I’m even prouder to call Westborough my hometown,” she said. Residents can expect to see her at upcoming town events, school assemblies, and charity fundraisers throughout the year.

The story of a police officer who also holds a prestigious pageant title underscores the town’s belief that dedication to family, faith, and community can coexist with public service. Westborough residents are encouraged to support Mercier’s initiatives and welcome her back to the beat.
