Mike Rowe: Socialism Fails in US

Mike Rowe, founder of the skilled-trades nonprofit mikeroweWORKS, recently shared his thoughts on why Americans continue to reject socialism. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Rowe emphasized the significance of understanding American history and the principles of the country’s founding.

Understanding American History

Rowe suggested that those who are not proud of the United States may need to refresh their knowledge of the nation’s history or visit other countries to gain a different perspective. He noted that the constant stream of bad news can lead to short-term conclusions about the country, but America’s founding offers a longer historical perspective.

Rowe pointed out that the Founders effectively signed their own ‘death warrant’ when they declared independence from Great Britain in pursuit of ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’ He encouraged people to look back at American history and reimagine their worldview.

Socialism’s Failures

Given recent wins by socialist politicians in various states, Rowe stated that ‘history is a wheel’ that always spins. He expressed his difficulty in thinking of instances where socialism has been successful, saying ‘I got nothing, man.’ Rowe believes that ideas that are out of favor will eventually return, but they will ultimately fail as people experience their own history.

Rowe also discussed his focus on blue-collar work and the potential dangers of the artificial intelligence revolution. He expressed confidence in the country’s democratic process and spirit of innovation, saying ‘We’re going to argue like hell, and in the end, hopefully somebody somewhere in this town will be talking about these same things 250 years from now.’
