Micron pledges $67 million for Treasure Valley transit, housing and child programs

Micron Technology announced a $67 million investment aimed at improving daily life for families across the Treasure Valley. The company said the money will be used to expand public transportation, increase affordable housing options and fund programs for children, all of which support the workforce that will staff Micron’s growing manufacturing footprint.

Transit improvements

Micron is committing $11.6 million over five years to Valley Regional Transit. The funding will help launch a new Route 41 that will connect Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian and Boise, with service expected to begin early next spring. The route will run seven days a week, and Valley Regional Transit estimates that more than 40,000 additional residents will live within a mile of a bus stop. “People in this region spend about 22 percent of their disposable income on transportation, and anything over 15 percent is considered a burden,” said Elaine Clegg, CEO of Valley Regional Transit.

Affordable‑housing projects

Another $10.5 million will be directed toward affordable‑housing initiatives. Eight million dollars will go to LEAP Housing, while $4 million will help finish 30 workforce‑rental homes in Mountain Home. A further $4 million will provide down‑payment assistance for up to 200 first‑time homebuyers across five southwest Idaho counties. “I’m raising my family here with hopes for my children and future generations. Without affordable‑housing solutions, that hope isn’t possible,” said Bart Cochran, founder and CEO of LEAP Housing.

An additional $2.5 million will support the construction of more than 300 affordable homes in Boise’s Lusk District, with 10 percent set aside for individuals transitioning out of homelessness.

Investing in children

The largest portion of the commitment—more than $45 million—will be reserved for a child‑focused program. Micron plans to provide $250 seed deposits for eligible Treasure Valley children, encouraging families to discuss long‑term goals and community service. “It’s our way of creating an excuse at the dinner table for families to talk about not just what they want to be when they grow up, but also how they want to serve Idaho’s future,” said Rosita Najmi, global head of social impact and community engagement at the Micron Foundation.

Micron’s executive vice president and chief people officer, April Arnzen, emphasized that the investment is about people: “We’re investing in the people who will work in these facilities, the families who will support our employees.” The company expects the transit and housing projects to be visible to residents as early as next spring, reinforcing Micron’s commitment to the region’s economic growth and quality of life.
