Tom Smith, a Michigan Republican, has won the primary for the state’s 8th Congressional District despite dropping out of the race last month. Smith had endorsed another candidate, Al Lemmo, but still managed to secure the win. He will now face Democratic Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet in the general election.
Smith’s Victory
Smith declared his intention to run for the 8th Congressional District at a GOP unity brunch in Macomb County, where he told Republican activists that he would need their help to unseat Rivet. Smith did not return Fox News Digital’s inquiries about whether he would be resuming his campaign.
Smith reportedly said in a statement to CNN that he was ‘humbled and honored’ to be chosen to take the fight to Democrats in the November general election. He also expressed his intention to work with Speaker Johnson and the entire Republican team to expand the House majority and advance President Trump’s America First agenda.
