Miami community mourns five victims of Amazon cargo plane crash

Miami‑Dade County is grieving after a tragic collision between an Amazon cargo aircraft and a cleaning van left five local residents dead. The Boeing 767 cargo plane struck a van operated by Professional Ocean Service, which had seven people inside.

Identified victims

At a news conference, Miami‑Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero‑Stutz announced the names of the five victims: Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47. Family members and friends described the deceased as hardworking and “awesome” individuals.

Family reactions and prayers

Family member of Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, speaking through a Ring camera, called him “awesome, an awesome human being” and asked for privacy. Sheriff Cordero‑Stutz said, “Our prayers remain with the families of the five individuals who lost their lives.” Tania Sigler, a colleague of two of the victims, was overcome with emotion, calling them “impeccable young men”.

Medical updates

Authorities confirmed that the two pilots of the Amazon cargo plane have been released from the hospital. However, three other individuals remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition.

Investigation continues

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is on the scene conducting a full investigation. A follow‑up news conference is scheduled for 7 p.m. to provide further updates.
