Miami and Columbus Battle to a 2-2 Draw at Nu Stadium

Neither side could claim victory Saturday night in Miami as Inter Miami CF and the Columbus Crew played to a 2-2 draw at Nu Stadium, each team leaving South Florida with a single point in the MLS standings.

The match was a back-and-forth affair that saw both clubs find the net twice, with neither goalkeeper able to secure a clean sheet. Inter Miami’s Rocco Ríos Novo and Columbus’s Patrick Schulte each finished with two saves on the evening, a mirror image that reflected just how evenly contested the contest was from start to finish.

Inter Miami held a slight edge in possession at 51.3 percent and generated 12 total shots, putting four of them on target. Despite the territorial advantage, the hosts could not convert enough of their chances to walk away with all three points. The club earned five corner kicks and committed nine fouls while picking up one yellow card, keeping discipline mostly intact throughout the night.

Lionel Messi was Inter Miami’s most dangerous attacking presence, leading all players on the home side with four total shots. His relentless pressure kept the Columbus backline occupied, but the Argentine superstar was ultimately unable to produce the decisive moment Miami needed. In the midfield and defensive third, Casemiro was a commanding force, recording a team-high 11 defensive interventions to help keep Columbus from pulling ahead. Micael was the engine in possession for the hosts, completing 82 accurate passes to keep Miami’s build-up play ticking.

Columbus, for their part, matched Miami’s attacking output shot-for-shot at the top of the leaderboard. Jamal Thiaré led the Crew with four total shots, providing a consistent threat on the counter. André Gomes was instrumental in keeping Columbus organized in possession, completing 79 accurate passes to rank as the most accurate distributor on the visiting side. Defensively, Sean Zawadzki anchored the Crew’s midfield with nine defensive interventions, disrupting Miami’s rhythm on multiple occasions.

Inter Miami attempted 596 passes in total, completing 533 of them for a strong pass completion rate, demonstrating their intent to control the tempo of the match. However, the team managed only one accurate cross from eight attempts, suggesting that while Miami moved the ball efficiently through the middle of the park, they struggled to create quality from wide areas.

The result means both clubs will have to settle for a point apiece, a outcome that may feel more like a missed opportunity for Inter Miami given they had home advantage and a slight edge in overall possession and shot volume. Columbus, meanwhile, can take some satisfaction in coming away from a hostile road environment without a defeat.

With the draw now on the books, both Inter Miami CF and Columbus Crew will look ahead to their next fixtures as the MLS regular season continues to heat up in the summer stretch.
