The New York Mets have fired manager Carlos Mendoza and replaced him with Andy Green. The Mets are currently 34-47, 15 games behind the NL East-leading Atlanta team.
Team Performance
The Mets opened the season with baseball’s highest payroll at $358 million and were projected to pay an additional $124 million in luxury tax. Despite high expectations, the team has been a disappointment this season.
Mets owner Steve Cohen stated, ‘Our commitment to bringing our fans a championship-caliber team has not changed. There is no sugar-coating it: This season has been a disappointment and our fans deserve better than what we’ve delivered.’
Carlos Mendoza led the Mets to a 206-199 record after replacing Buck Showalter in 2023. However, the team failed to reach the playoffs last year and is among the biggest disappointments this season.
Andy Green, a former major league infielder, joined the Mets in 2023 as senior vice president of baseball development. He previously managed the San Diego team from 2016-19.
