Meta Platforms has announced a new artificial intelligence agent designed to help businesses manage daily tasks, marking its entry into the enterprise AI sector. The announcement was made at the Conversations conference in London, focusing on WhatsApp’s business capabilities.
Expanding Business Capabilities
The new AI agent enhances existing business messaging services by allowing businesses to automate tasks such as booking appointments and closing sales. This tool will be available on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, with plans for a global rollout to businesses of all sizes.
Meta’s move positions it against competitors like OpenAI and Google in the enterprise AI market, leveraging its vast user base across its platforms. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, emphasized the company’s ambition to provide comprehensive solutions for businesses, stating, “We actually want to take actions now. We actually want it to be able to complete the payment, to process the booking, to place the order.”
Customizable and Comprehensive
The Business Agent can be tailored to reflect a company’s tone and handle various tasks, including responding to frequently asked questions and escalating complex issues to human staff. Initially offered for free, Meta plans to introduce paid subscription options in the future.
Additionally, Meta is launching a broader Business Agent Platform, which allows businesses to create custom AI agents for operations beyond Meta’s apps. This platform connects with systems like Shopify and Zendesk, providing enterprise-grade controls and measurement tools.
Future Developments
Gleit is leading efforts to consolidate Meta’s AI offerings, including internal tools and a user-facing support bot. The focus is on creating modular solutions that can adapt to rapidly advancing technology. “The number one thing I hear, especially from small businesses, is ‘I just want to go to one place that can do all the things,'” Gleit noted.
This development is part of a broader restructuring within Meta, aiming to integrate AI more deeply into its business operations and offerings.
