The Indianapolis Public Library’s Central branch is excited to announce the opening of its newly renovated spaces designed specifically for children and teenagers. These areas, known as Kid Central and Teen Central, aim to provide engaging and age-appropriate experiences for young patrons.
New Spaces for Youth
Located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, the Central Library has revamped its third floor to house children’s materials on both the east and west sides. Meanwhile, the second floor’s east side is now home to the teen collections. This thoughtful redesign is part of the library’s ongoing commitment to serve the community’s younger members effectively.
The grand opening event is set for June 6 at the Central Library, located at 40 E. St. Clair St. The festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. and will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, balloon twisting, face and canvas painting, and a teddy bear concert. These activities are designed to engage families and celebrate the new spaces.
Community Involvement
Several community groups will be present at the event to share information and resources. These include the Center for Black Literature & Culture, the Indiana Sports Corp., and the Indianapolis Public Library Social Work Services. Additionally, library staff will be available to assist children and adults in signing up for the library’s Summer Reading Program, encouraging literacy and learning throughout the summer months.
Patrons are invited to explore the new spaces and participate in the day’s activities until the library closes at 5 p.m. This initiative underscores the library’s role in fostering a love of reading and learning in a family-friendly environment.
