Memorial Day Weather: Sunny Skies with Possible Afternoon Storms

As we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country this Memorial Day, Texans can expect mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching the upper-80s. While the day will start with a few clouds, the sun will dominate by midday. However, residents should be prepared for the possibility of a stray storm in the afternoon. If a storm does develop, it could bring heavy rain, lightning, and thunder to localized areas.

Looking Ahead: Storms Likely Tuesday Night

As we move into Tuesday, expect a bit more cloud cover, but the likelihood of rain will remain low until after sunset. Temperatures will again reach the upper-80s. By Tuesday night, upper-level energy is expected to trigger storms to the west, which will move eastward overnight. These storms could be strong and bring significant rainfall. Most of the storm activity should clear out before the Wednesday morning commute, though wet roads and potential street flooding may linger.

Quieter End to the Week

Following Tuesday night’s storms, the chance of rain decreases for the remainder of the week. While a few pop-up storms may occur on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, Friday is expected to be rain-free. Looking towards the weekend, a front may arrive late, potentially stirring up more storms from Sunday into Monday.
