Memorial Day Observances Lead to Closures Across New Mexico

As communities across New Mexico come together to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our nation, Memorial Day brings about several closures and service changes throughout the state. On Monday, May 25, federal, state, and local government offices will be closed, resuming normal operations the following day, Tuesday, May 26.

Impact on Local Services

In Albuquerque, the city’s public transportation system, ABQ RIDE, along with the Sun Van paratransit service, will not be operating. The Rail Runner Express service is also suspended for the holiday. However, residents can still access ABQ RIDE customer service at 243-RIDE for trip planning and assistance. Notably, trash collection in Albuquerque will proceed as scheduled, ensuring that essential services continue uninterrupted.

Recreational Areas and Fire Safety

While U.S. Forest Service offices, including those at Santa Fe National Forest and Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands, are closed, many recreational areas remain accessible to the public under fee-free access rules. Visitors are reminded to adhere to fire restrictions in effect across several districts due to heightened wildfire risks.

These closures and adjustments serve as a reminder of the importance of Memorial Day, a time for reflection and gratitude for the freedoms secured by the ultimate sacrifice of our military heroes.
