Memorial Day Events in Tarrant County Honor Fallen Heroes

As Memorial Day approaches, Tarrant County residents have several opportunities to honor and remember the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our nation. Various events are scheduled across the county, offering moments of reflection and community togetherness.

Fort Worth Memorial Events

In Fort Worth, the 97th annual tribute at Mount Olivet Cemetery will feature a keynote speech by U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Richard E. Brown III. Attendees can witness a solemn flag-folding ceremony, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our military personnel. This event is scheduled for May 25 from 10 to 11 a.m., and admission is free.

For those interested in a more active commemoration, the Fort Worth Runners Club is hosting a 5K run-or-walk race and a 1K kids fun run at Trinity Park Pavilion No. 1. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on May 25, with refreshments provided afterward. Preregistration is available, with race day registration also an option.

Grand Prairie and Arlington Ceremonies

In Grand Prairie, a ceremony will honor local service personnel who lost their lives in battle. Names will be announced, followed by the ringing of a brass Honor Bell and a 21-gun salute by the city police honor guard. The event, which may include a flyover, will take place on May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at 925 Conover Drive. Hot dogs and lemonade will be provided by local Rotary clubs.

Arlington will host a wreath-laying ceremony and presentation of the colors to honor residents who died in service. Gold Star families are invited to participate by placing a flower in the wreath. Musical performances by the Arlington Community Band and the Goodtimes Chorus will enhance the ceremony, scheduled for May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at 3600 W. Arkansas Lane.

Family-Friendly Festivities

For those looking to combine remembrance with celebration, Arlington’s DreamFest offers a lively block party atmosphere at the Levitt Pavilion. Running throughout Memorial Day weekend, the event features live music, entertainment, food vendors, and activities suitable for all ages.

Additionally, a museum in Arlington will display a field of flags, each representing a life lost in service. Visitors can add flags in memory of loved ones and enjoy a menu featuring smoked brisket sandwiches and other offerings. The display is open from May 24-26, with varying admission fees.
