Washington – First Lady Melania Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday to introduce Imperia, a new initiative designed to help women become leaders and wield greater economic power.
Imperia’s mission and membership
Imperia brings together CEOs, founders, innovators, entrepreneurs and other business leaders. In her remarks to the group, Melania emphasized that women have long fought for a seat at the table and that the next chapter is about “owning, growing and making space for the women who come next.”
She said the initiative encourages women to own businesses, equity, real estate, capital and investment assets, as well as their ideas, intellectual property and economic future.
Economic impact of women
Melania warned that many still underestimate the scale of women’s power in the global economy. “Women are not just part of the marketplace, simple participants. We are its foundation, and we are its infrastructure,” she said.
First Lady’s broader activities
Earlier Wednesday, she appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss Imperia alongside other topics, including President Donald Trump’s state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping, her efforts to reunite children separated by Russia’s war in Ukraine, and a forthcoming two‑part docuseries.
Melania noted that while she may be less visible in public than during President Trump’s first term, she is working “nonstop” behind the scenes on projects tied to the U.N. General Assembly and the upcoming Xi visit.
She highlighted her role in reuniting five groups of Ukrainian and Russian children with their families and said her team continues to pursue additional reunifications.
Upcoming docuseries
In addition to Imperia, Melania announced a new two‑part docuseries set to debut this fall. The series will feature one‑on‑one conversations and personal questions not previously disclosed, offering a deeper look at her life and work.
Imperia and the docuseries reflect the first lady’s focus on leveraging her platform to promote women’s economic empowerment and to showcase the contributions of women to the nation’s prosperity.
