McKinney is about to become a whole lot more connected to the rest of the country. Avelo Airlines has announced it will launch nonstop commercial service from McKinney National Airport this fall, with flights to five destinations set to begin in November — including Las Vegas and multiple cities in Florida.
The announcement marks a major milestone for Collin County, with Avelo dubbing itself the area’s “hometown airline.” McKinney National Airport will become North Texas’s third commercial airport, giving residents a convenient local alternative to the region’s larger hubs.
The addition of nonstop routes means McKinney-area travelers will be able to skip the long drives to DFW International or Love Field for popular leisure destinations. With Las Vegas and Florida cities among the inaugural routes, the new service is well-timed for holiday travel season.
The launch caps what Dallas News described as a “long journey” to bring commercial air service to McKinney — a milestone that reflects the city’s remarkable growth and its rising profile as one of the most dynamic communities in North Texas. For residents of McKinney and greater Collin County, the runway ahead looks bright.
