Millions of dollars in matching grants from the National Park Service will be available to help Maryland communities expand parks and recreational opportunities. The funding includes two competitive grant programs, the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program and the Readiness and Recreation Initiative, for counties, municipalities, and state agencies.
Grant Programs
The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program offers 50% matching grants ranging from $300,000 to $15 million for park acquisition and recreation projects in urban areas with populations of at least 25,000. Preference will be given to projects serving low-income communities. Applications are due to the state by Sept. 1.
The Readiness and Recreation Initiative provides 50% matching grants ranging from $250,000 to $3 million for projects that include land acquisition and improve recreation opportunities in designated sentinel landscapes or Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration opportunity areas. Applications for that program are accepted on a rolling basis.
Additional information about both programs is available through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Nationally Competitive Land and Water Conservation Fund Grants webpage.
