Marvell projects Q3 revenue above forecasts as AI chip demand surges

Marvell Technology announced on Thursday that it anticipates third‑quarter revenue of $3.15 billion, plus or minus 5 percent, comfortably above the consensus estimate of $3.03 billion compiled by LSEG. The company also expects adjusted earnings of $1.10 per share, a modest beat of analysts’ $1.07 forecast.

AI‑focused custom silicon fuels growth

The upbeat outlook reflects accelerating demand for Marvell’s custom chips and networking equipment that power AI‑driven data centers. As major technology firms shift from using off‑the‑shelf processors to purpose‑built silicon, Marvell’s designs are positioned to deliver higher performance and efficiency for running AI models, not just training them.

Big‑tech companies are increasingly developing in‑house processors to avoid the high cost and supply constraints associated with Nvidia’s GPUs. This trend has turned Marvell’s custom silicon business into a key beneficiary of the broader data‑center build‑out.

Strategic partnership with Google

Last week Marvell disclosed a landmark agreement with Alphabet’s Google to supply custom chips for the search giant’s AI initiatives. The deal, which could generate up to $120 billion in revenue through fiscal 2033, also gives Google the option to acquire a stake in Marvell worth as much as $12.2 billion. The partnership diversifies Marvell’s customer base and strengthens its competitive position against rivals such as Broadcom, which counts OpenAI among its custom‑chip customers.

Recent performance highlights

In the second quarter, Marvell reported sales of $2.74 billion, a 37 percent increase year‑over‑year, surpassing the $2.71 billion consensus. Adjusted earnings came in at 94 cents per share, edging past the 92‑cent estimate.

Investor sentiment has been buoyant, with Marvell’s stock price nearly tripling so far this year on optimism surrounding AI‑related growth. Despite the positive guidance, shares slipped just over 1 percent in after‑hours trading following the earnings preview.

Outlook and industry context

Marvell’s guidance underscores the broader industry shift toward specialized silicon as AI workloads become more pervasive. By offering custom solutions that can be tightly integrated with networking gear, the company aims to capture a larger share of the expanding AI infrastructure market.

Analysts will be watching how the Google partnership unfolds and whether Marvell can sustain its revenue momentum amid intensifying competition from other chipmakers seeking to capitalize on the AI boom.
