Yorkshire Wildlife Park, located near Doncaster in northern England, experienced a tragic incident on Saturday when a man entered the park’s Amur tiger enclosure and was fatally attacked.
South Yorkshire Police reported that emergency responders arrived at the scene around 1:35 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the location. The tiger involved was not injured and remained inside the enclosure throughout the event.
The park, which opened its “Land of the Tigers” attraction in 2011, features a two‑acre reserve designed for endangered Siberian tigers. Visitors normally view the big cats from a raised walkway that winds through woodlands, grasslands, and a waterfall pool.
Following the attack, park officials evacuated the area and police continued their investigation into how the individual accessed the enclosure. The wildlife park released a statement saying it is cooperating closely with authorities to determine the exact circumstances.
Park Background
Since its inception in 2009, Yorkshire Wildlife Park has focused on conservation and education, providing a habitat for Amur tigers and other wildlife. The “Land of the Tigers” exhibit aims to raise awareness of the species’ endangered status.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not released details about the victim’s identity or the specific method used to breach the enclosure. Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
