Shakopee police responded to a weapons complaint at 9:55 a.m. and discovered the victim, who was immediately transported to Hennepin Healthcare. Despite efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by a police statement on social media.

The shooting took place in the parking lot outside the event center at Canterbury Park. As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim’s identity had not been released, and authorities had not disclosed any potential motive or suspect information.

Jaylani Hussein, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations of Minnesota, is gathering information on the incident. Habon Abdulle, executive director of Ayala Leads, expressed the community’s grief, emphasizing the sacredness of Eid al-Adha and the pain of experiencing violence on such a day.

Canterbury Park’s spokesperson, Jeff Maday, confirmed that the casino remains open and that live racing will resume over the weekend. He extended condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
