Mali the Belgian Malinois Finds a New Home in El Paso

In El Paso, Texas, a Belgian Malinois named Mali has found her forever home, thanks to the dedicated efforts of local rescue organizations and the U.S. Border Patrol. Mali, a stray with a gentle demeanor, was discovered curled up in the tall grass along the Rio Grande by Border Patrol agents.

A Special Rescue

Linda Swind, who has adopted Mali, shared her experience with ABC-7, describing the breed’s typically high-energy nature. However, Mali stood out as a ‘unicorn’ due to her calm and sweet disposition. Linda’s previous Malinois had passed away recently, and she was hesitant to adopt another until she met Mali.

Karen Washington, from Pawsitive Rescuers, was called in to assist with Mali’s rescue. She noted that Mali was found with a collar that was too tight, suggesting she had been used for breeding. Despite her past, Mali showed immediate gratitude and warmth, making her an exceptional case among the dogs Karen typically rescues.

Community Impact

This story highlights the important role that local organizations and the Border Patrol play in rescuing and rehoming animals in need. Linda’s adoption of Mali is not her first experience with a dog rescued by Border Patrol, underscoring the ongoing collaboration between local citizens and federal agents in the Borderland area.

Linda, who is also caring for her sick mother, expressed that adopting Mali was a decision she does not regret. The bond they formed was immediate and heartwarming, as Mali nuzzled her head into Linda’s lap, sealing the decision to bring her home.
