An early-morning crash on Interstate 295 in South Portland, Maine, caused traffic delays on Monday. Around 4 a.m., Maine State Police said they responded to a report of a rollover involving a box truck on I-295 south in South Portland.
Police said the box truck, driven by 40-year-old Jose Cancel, of Newport, Rhode Island, was headed north when the driver swerved to avoid three deer in the road. The truck overcorrected, struck the median guardrail, overturned, and came to rest blocking the southbound travel lanes.
The driver was not injured in the crash. The truck was transporting household goods, which were scattered across the highway. One lane had reopened as of 8 a.m., but state police said delays should be expected.
