A bald eagle, possibly involved in an altercation with another eagle, has been spotted near its nest in Big Bear Valley. The eagle, a subadult around 3.5 years old, was seen near the nest managed by Friends of Big Bear Valley.

The injured eagle, named Jackie, was found on the ground near Dana Point Park and was taken to a rehabilitation facility. Her condition has not been updated since July 23. Jackie’s mate, Shadow, and their offspring, Sandy and Luna, have been at the nest, though Sandy and Luna have not been spotted for several days.
The altercation between Jackie and the subadult eagle was captured on cell phone video, which showed Jackie defending herself but unable to fly far. The subadult eagle is still too young to be looking for a mate or nesting territory, according to a conservationist.
Friends of Big Bear Valley, the nonprofit that manages the eagle nest cam, released new information about the altercation and the subadult eagle. The organization stated that Shadow showed defensive behavior against the subadult eagle while Sandy and Luna were at the nest.
