Madras McDonald’s set to reopen in December after extensive renovation

Madras, Ore. – The local McDonald’s is on track to welcome customers again in December following a major renovation prompted by a minor fire in February. Owner Mason Rodby explained that the blaze required a full replacement of the restaurant’s plumbing and electrical systems, leading the decision to rebuild rather than simply repair.

Upgraded facilities for a growing community

The renovation will expand the kitchen area, add more self‑service kiosks in the lobby, and introduce a third lane to the busy drive‑through. These improvements are intended to accommodate the steady flow of families and travelers who rely on the restaurant’s convenient location.

“We’ve been under construction for three weeks and we still get anywhere from five to ten customers trying to go through the drive‑through or come inside,” Rodby said. “Unfortunately, they won’t be open till December to serve those guests.”

Despite the upgrades, the restaurant will retain its play area, a feature that is becoming less common at newer McDonald’s locations. The play space remains a popular spot for local children and families.

Staff support during the closure

During the temporary shutdown, many of the Madras McDonald’s employees found temporary positions at nearby McDonald’s restaurants in Redmond and Prineville. The corporation provided financial assistance to cover travel and housing costs, helping staff maintain steady income while the Madras site was out of service.

Local residents have expressed enthusiasm for the restaurant’s return. While KTVZ was filming, a driver attempted to place an order at the closed drive‑through, illustrating the community’s eagerness to have the familiar fast‑food option back.

Looking ahead

With the renovation slated for completion by the end of the year, the Madras McDonald’s aims to resume full service in December. The expanded facilities are expected to better serve the town’s residents and travelers along the corridor, reinforcing the restaurant’s role as a convenient dining option in central Oregon.

Rodby and his team remain focused on delivering a refreshed experience that meets the needs of the community while preserving the familiar elements that locals love.
