Chinese robotics firm Lumos Robotics announced it is exploring another fundraising round and may begin preparations for a stock‑market listing as early as next year. Founder and CEO Yu Chao said the company will use any new capital primarily for industrial deployments, hardware development and AI model infrastructure.
Focus on factory efficiency
Lumos, founded in 2024 and based in Shenzhen, has raised roughly 1 billion yuan (about $147 million) across seven financing rounds. While the company develops bipedal robots, its commercial effort centers on the MOS 2 – a wheeled, dual‑arm robot designed for tasks such as quality inspection and material handling on the factory floor.
Yu emphasized that the era of robots performing stunts has passed; today’s priority is reliable, long‑duration operation that improves productivity and delivers a clear return on investment. The firm has deployed about 30 MOS units and expects to ship roughly 300 robots by year‑end, with an additional 50 deliveries slated for the coming month.
Cost savings and partnership with Mitsubishi
In a joint project with Japanese industrial group Mitsubishi Electric, Lumos reduced the cost of a solution to under 350,000 yuan, down from the previous range of 500,000 to 1 million yuan, while matching human cycle times. Reuters could not independently verify those figures.
The company also highlighted its data advantage, having accumulated around 700,000 hours of robot operation data to train new skills and shorten development cycles. Yu expects multi‑tasking robots to become reliable at scale within two to three years.
Future expansion
Lumos plans to push overseas next year, targeting markets in the Middle East, Europe, Japan and South Korea. The firm’s largest foreign shareholder, Mitsubishi Electric, is collaborating on manufacturing solutions, underscoring the growing international interest in Chinese industrial robotics.
