St. Xavier High School graduate Luke Kuechly was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Kuechly, a former Carolina Panthers linebacker, earned the honor in his second year of eligibility.
Career Highlights
Kuechly, 35, made a total of 1,092 tackles throughout his career, including more than 100 in each of his eight seasons in Charlotte. He was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.
Kuechly’s 14-minute induction speech remembered those who helped him get to the Hall of Fame, as well as the life lessons that football taught him along the way. He emphasized the importance of relationships formed through football, saying they are unique and become like family.
Kuechly said that it was a huge honor to receive the accolade and the perfect way to cap off his football career, which was cut short in 2020 after he reported having lingering health effects as a result of prior concussions.
