Rowan Henchy, the 23-year-old daughter of actress Brooke Shields, has joined the cast of Peacock’s reality show “Next Gen NYC”. In a recent interview, Henchy talked about her experience on the show and her life with type-1 diabetes.
Living with Type-1 Diabetes
Henchy was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes at the age of 15. She uses wearable automated insulin technology, such as Omnipod, to control her condition. Despite the challenges, Henchy says she has not let diabetes hold her back. “There is not one thing in my life that I have not indulged in because of diabetes,” she says.
Henchy’s mother, Brooke Shields, had initially expressed concerns about her daughter joining a reality show. However, Henchy says she has been able to navigate the experience with her mother’s advice to be the “voice of reason” on the show.
Proud to be a ‘Nepo Baby’
Henchy is also proud to be a “nepo baby”, a term used to describe the children of celebrities. While she acknowledges that her family background may have opened doors for her, she also recognizes that it can be a double-edged sword. “Does it help in certain situations? Of course. But at the same time, people don’t want to deal with it,” she says.
