Rogers Park could see the redevelopment of the closed St. Ignatius campus into Loyola University student housing and a social services center. The Ignatian Mission Center, a Catholic nonprofit, plans to turn the church and rectory into a social service center with a women’s shelter, daycare, and food pantry.
Redevelopment Plans
Loyola University Chicago proposes to demolish the adjacent school to build a 65-unit student housing building for upperclassmen and graduate students. The development could free up local privately owned apartments often rented by students.
The Ignatian Mission Center would need a special use permit to operate the shelter and social services, while Loyola would need a zoning change to build its student living building. Neighbors can learn more and provide comments during a community meeting.
As part of the proposal, Loyola committed to donating $625,000 over 10 years to the Ignatian Mission Center and providing 1,500 square feet of rent-free community space in its housing building.
