Chicago’s From the ‘Go Fest will take place on Saturday, featuring a lineup of local artists, including rapper Lil M.U., who will perform a solo set for the first time. The festival, which is in its fourth year, aims to provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents and gain experience in the music, business, and media industries.
Supporting Young Talent
The festival is organized by True Star Media, a Bronzeville-based organization that provides training and resources for young people in the creative fields. According to Tashay Dennie, festival director and chief operating officer, the event is designed to give young people a first opportunity to perform, network, and learn from industry professionals.
The festival will feature about 30 artists, including rappers, singers, and dancers, as well as a vendor village with youth-owned businesses selling food, clothing, and other products. Admission is free, and attendees can expect to enjoy a fun and supportive atmosphere, with raffles, prizes, and meet-and-greets with the performers.
A Youth-Led Event
From the ‘Go Fest is a youth-led event, with young people contributing to every aspect of the festival, from planning and organization to performance and promotion. DeAnna Sherman, co-founder and CEO of True Star Media, said that the festival is designed to empower young people and give them the confidence to pursue their passions and interests.
The festival has grown in popularity over the years, with more sponsors and attendees than ever before. Despite funding challenges, the organizers have managed to keep the event free and open to the public, with a focus on creating a safe and supportive space for young people to express themselves and connect with others.
