LOTOJA Bike Race Returns for 44th Year; Cyclists to Ride Through Jackson on Sept. 12

Jackson, WY — The beloved Logan‑to‑Jackson (LOTOJA) bike race makes its 44th appearance this weekend, and for the first time in years the race will thread through the heart of Jackson on Saturday, September 12. The 205‑mile, five‑leg event begins in Logan, Utah and finishes in Teton Village, climbing roughly 9,000 feet and crossing three mountain passes.

Race Route Through Town

After traveling north from Hoback Junction to South Park Loop Road, cyclists will be routed onto the pathway near the end of Tribal Trail Road, passing Melody Ranch and 3 Creek Ranch. The riders will stay on the path until they cross the Snake River Pathway Bridge, then re‑enter the Teton Village Road (WY‑390) for the final stretch.

Safety Reminder for Pathway Users

Because the Jackson leg is the race’s finale, many participants will be fatigued by the time they reach the three‑mile segment of the county pathway system. “By the time the riders get to Jackson they’re usually exhausted and may not be able to react quickly to other pathway users,” said Town/County Pathways Coordinator Brian Schilling. He urged walkers and local cyclists to check behind them for oncoming racers, move to the side of the path when possible, and generally use extra caution between Indian Trails and Rendezvous Park, especially on the bridge over the Snake River.

Volunteer Opportunities

Course marshals will be stationed at key junctions from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. to help manage race traffic, though participants often continue riding as late as 10 p.m. Residents who wish to assist with traffic control or pathway safety can contact Brian Schilling via email. Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping both racers and the public safe during the high‑energy finish.

Why LOTOJA Matters to the Community

Beyond the athletic challenge, LOTOJA brings together cyclists, families, and local businesses for a weekend of camaraderie and tourism. The race highlights Wyoming’s scenic trails and showcases the region’s commitment to outdoor recreation—a value shared by many families and faith‑based groups who cherish the natural blessings of the Tetons.

As the race rolls through town, local merchants along the route can expect increased foot traffic, and residents are encouraged to enjoy the festive atmosphere while remaining mindful of safety. The event underscores the community’s dedication to healthy, active lifestyles and to supporting one another during large‑scale gatherings.

Looking Ahead

With the race concluding in Teton Village, participants will celebrate their achievement at the finish line before heading home. Organizers hope the successful passage through Jackson this year will set a precedent for future editions, reinforcing the partnership between race officials, local government, and the community.
