A fire in a large trash bin burned for hours Monday in a Long Beach public works lot. The fire started at about 9:30 a.m. in the lot on Anaheim Street east of the 710 Freeway and west of the Los Angeles River channel. Initially reported as a brush fire, firefighters determined the flames were in a large dumpster.
No evacuations were ordered. There was no threat to the surrounding area, the fire department said. The fire was still burning early Monday afternoon. Details about a cause were not immediately available.
