London Overtakes Paris as Europe’s Leading Tech Hub

London has once again emerged as Europe’s leading technology hub, surpassing Paris, as revealed by Dealroom’s Global Tech Ecosystem Index 2026. The city’s resurgence is attributed to significant investments in artificial intelligence and deep tech innovation, which have bolstered its tech ecosystem.

Investment and Growth

In the past year, London-based tech companies have raised an impressive $17.7 billion in venture capital, contributing to the city’s robust growth. The city is home to 138 unicorns—startups valued at over $1 billion—including notable names like Wayve, Granola, OLIX, and ElevenLabs. This achievement places London fourth globally, trailing only behind the Bay Area, New York, and Boston.

Yoram Wijngaarde, founder and CEO of Dealroom.co, highlighted the significance of London’s achievement, stating, “London reclaiming the top spot in Europe reflects the maturity and resilience of the UK’s tech ecosystem. The city continues to attract global investment while producing internationally significant companies across AI, fintech, and life sciences.”

European Tech Landscape

Other European cities also feature prominently in the global tech landscape. Paris and Stockholm are ranked eighth and nineteenth, respectively, while Berlin and Munich hold the twenty-second and twenty-fourth positions. Munich’s growth is particularly noteworthy, driven by the expansion of Europe’s defense ecosystem, with companies like Helsing and ARX Robotics raising $763 million.

Dealroom.co’s methodology for the index emphasizes economic impact, considering factors such as venture capital, enterprise value creation, unicorns, ecosystem momentum, and links to universities. This comprehensive approach provides a clear picture of the thriving tech environments across Europe.
