Three students from the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District (EMS ISD) recently attended the Conference On National Affairs in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Elliot Walker and Charlie Levine of Boswell High School and Brady Escamilla of Chisholm Trail High School were part of the Fort Worth delegation, which included over 650 high school students from across the United States.
Civic Engagement and Connection
During the conference, students participated in conversations, debates, and activities designed to encourage civic engagement and connection. They discussed proposals addressing national and international issues, listened to different viewpoints, and worked to identify possible solutions.
The experience also allowed students to step out of their comfort zones, with no internet access on the mountain. Participants spent the week talking face-to-face, forming relationships with students from different states and backgrounds.
Each of the three EMS ISD students brought unique qualities to the experience. Walker pushed himself to participate fully, while Levine stood out with his thoughtful debate skills. Escamilla quickly connected with students from across the country, bringing energy and humor to the group.
