AJ Chris, a 26-year-old comedian from Johnson County, recently performed at Clint’s Comedy Club in Overland Park. Chris has spent several years doing standup comedy in the United Kingdom but returned to her hometown for a special show.
From Theatre Kid to Comedian
Chris began performing at a young age, attending theatre camps in Overland Park and landing her first paid role as Baby Louise in ‘Gypsy’ at a downtown Kansas City theater. She moved to the UK after high school and started doing stand-up comedy at open mic nights.
Chris’s show at Clint’s Comedy Club was her first in her hometown, and she was excited to perform in front of her friends and family. The show pulled from both her experience growing up in Johnson County and her experience living in the UK.
Chris plans to return to the UK and is pursuing a Global Talent Visa, which is offered to UK-based performers by the Arts Council of England. Her hometown show was part of that effort, as international appearances can help give Global Talent Visa applicants an edge.
