Kalpana Lalgudi’s passion for art has turned into a way to give back to her community in Johnson County. Through her in-person and virtual art sessions, she provides a therapeutic outlet and raises funds for various charitable causes.
From Personal Passion to Community Impact
Lalgudi’s journey began 25 years ago when she started teaching art to Johnson Countians of all ages. Her program focuses on helping children and teens discover their artistic side, building confidence and self-esteem.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lalgudi saw an opportunity to bring people together through art. She created small paint kits and hand-delivered them to friends’ doorsteps, guiding them through virtual painting sessions. These sessions not only provided a creative outlet but also helped alleviate feelings of isolation.
Today, Lalgudi’s art sessions continue to make a positive impact. She donates the proceeds from each session to different charitable causes, including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, juvenile diabetes foundations, and projects providing clean water to communities in Africa.
Lalgudi’s story is a testament to the power of art and community. By sharing her talent and passion, she has created a ripple effect of kindness and generosity, inspiring others to do the same.
