Local artist Jaylen Fultz’s debut solo exhibition, ‘It Gets Better’, is now on display at MPACC BoxPark. Fultz’s journey as an artist began in his teenage years, with his early work reflecting his struggles with depression and feelings of instability due to frequent relocations during his childhood.
From Darkness to Joy
Fultz’s early paintings were dominated by dark colors, but as he grew and developed as an artist, he began to incorporate more vibrant colors and themes of joy and resilience. His exhibition features large-scale works that showcase his growth and newfound sense of purpose.
Fultz credits his involvement with local arts programs, such as ARtsway, with helping him find his voice and develop his skills as an artist. He also draws inspiration from his family, particularly his grandmother, who remained a beacon of hope and joy despite facing challenges.
The exhibition, which runs through mid-July, is a testament to Fultz’s journey and his message of hope and resilience. As he says, ‘I want to share that message that things do get better, because they do over time.’
