A live explosive device was found near a U.S. Homeland Security office in the Cleveland area, prompting the evacuation of at least seven nearby buildings. The device was discovered inside an office complex building in Brooklyn Heights, according to local reports.
Investigation Underway
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are leading the investigation. Authorities secured the scene and evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution after a law enforcement K-9 alerted investigators to a suspicious package containing the explosive device.
The office complex houses a Cleveland Homeland Security office, which operates as a satellite location for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the agency’s broader Detroit Field Office. Other government operations, including the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) and ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) bond acceptance facilities, are also located in the complex.
No injuries were reported, and an adjacent road was closed as a precaution. The incident is currently under investigation, with the FBI, ICE, and ATF working to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the explosive device.
