Lincoln Square neighbors are speaking out about a proposed five-story apartment building, calling for more units for families and less parking. The building, which would be located at 2648-58 W. Lawrence Ave, would feature 37 apartments and about 2,914 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

At a recent community meeting, neighbors expressed their desire for more family-friendly units and fewer parking spaces. Christine Mathis, president of the Greater Rockwell Organization, said she wants to see less parking and more room for bikes of all sizes. The proposed development is near major bus lines and a short distance away from two Brown Line stops, making it an ideal location for those who do not rely on cars.
Other neighbors, including members of the Gross Park Advisory Council, asked if the density of the units could be increased, potentially making the new construction a six- or seven-story building to accommodate more apartments for families. Carl Beien, Gross Park Advisory Council president, said the community would benefit from having more neighbors to use the nearby park.
The developer, MLV Properties, LLC, needs a zoning change to construct the building. The project could be completed by winter 2028 if approved.
