As temperatures rise, many families are seeking assistance with their summer electric bills. Fortunately, applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are still open in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Program Details
In Arkansas, priority enrollment applications opened in June, while the rest of the public could apply starting in early July. In Oklahoma, LIHEAP applications became available on July 14th. Our Healthy Communities (OHC) in Rogers administers the LIHEAP program in Benton, Carroll, and Madison counties.
Kat Pavone, the LIHEAP director at OHC, encourages applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. The program is income-based, so applicants will need to provide documentation, including a photo ID, Social Security cards or numbers, recent paystubs, proof of non-work income, and copies of utility bills.
For those with zero income, zero-income forms will need to be completed, and for those receiving assistance with bill payments, a contribution statement will be required. More information on the application process can be found here for Arkansas and here for Oklahoma.
