The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department responded to the 6600 block of Estero Blvd. on Friday afternoon, where they found four patients. Despite the efforts of a bystander who deployed an AED and performed CPR, one person succumbed to their injuries.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that at least three people were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation. The incident serves as a reminder for residents and visitors to be aware of the weather and environment, especially during periods of intense thunderstorm activity.
Gulf Coast Live Doppler Radar captured a lightning bolt in the area around 2:18 p.m., which coincides with the time of the deadly strike. The coroner’s office has removed the body from the beach, and the scene has been cleared.
